just by looking at him, halley could tell that chris was pissed. but she could tell if it was because of brayden, or because of how she had put herself down like that. either way, chris was doing a damn good job of covering it up, so halley decided not to say anything about it.
she listened to him speak, but obviously not closely enough. if she had listened, she probably would of caught it, and she would of said what she did next. "Yeah right." she started, shaking her head. "every single guy is the same in this damn school. the only one thats worth anything is..." she had gone to far, and her breathe caught in her throat. stupid halley. she let her breathe out. maybe he didnt catch it. she almost finished her sentence, but then he said something that caught her attention.
"Why not? whats there to say, that can't be said now. seriously chris..this day couldnt get any worse." she said, looking at him again, waiting.

Whoa, where was she going with this? Ah, that hurt. A lot. There wasn't a single decent guy around here? Mmm. Pain registered clearly on his face. Thanks, love. He let her go and stood up, holding his hand down to help her get up.
"Let's get back to the blanket," he said, voice quiet, emotionless. He was silent all of the way back to the blanket, his hand barely brushing against her. After he sat, he took her hand into his, letting out a deep breath. His hands were shakey, palms sweating despite how cold they were.
"Okay, so.. Ever since science class I've wanted to date you. But... I gave that up for the obvious reasons," he stopped there, feeling himself tense. He wasn't supposed to be doing this. Not now, not here. Not ever.

she instantly realized her mistake with the look on her face, and she wished for once that she had bit her tongue. this was not turning out how it was supposed to. she started to speak, but before she could finish, she had released her, and said they should go back to the blanket. she heard the hurt, or lack there of actually, in his voice, and it made her want to break down and cry again.
when he didnt say anything, she bit her lip. she looked at him, wanting to appologize and explain herself, but knew that it was no use. he wouldnt believe her if she did. so instead, she kept her mouth shut, not saying anything else till they reached the blanket.
when they did reach it, he suprised her. he took her hand, and she was suprised to find it clammy, and shakey. she looked up at him, a confused look on her face. whoa. what the hell was going on here. she opened her mouth to speak, yet again, but he beat her to the punch. after he spoke though, she clamped her mouth shut, closing her eyes. what the hell had just happened. she opened them again, watching him. "um...wow. obvious reasons? please. do explain, cause im a little lost..." she said, her eyes looking into his. this day just kept getting stranger all the time.

He cleared his throat, looking out at the water. The smoke from the fire was obscurring his veiw, and stinging his eyes. He withdrew, putting both hands down on the ground. Little grains of sand stuck to him from the blanket.
"Fuck, Halley, I don't know. Maybe because you were, like, the most pretty, most popular... And I'm Chris Brody. The Brode. The geek," he stopped, looking back at her this time. He shook his head. "I'm not the kind of guy that gets the girl. Especially not the amazing ones."
He ran his hand through his already mussed hair, blatantly nervous and putting his life on the line. "I fucking love you, Halley. And I mean like," he searched for what he was trying to say, "I love you." There. If she didn't understand, there was nothing he could do. Three years of holding in his feelings for her all just crumbled within three minutes. He put his head on his knees, face hidden.

she listened as he spoke, soaking up every word. this wasnt happening. it couldnt be happening. things like this didnt happen to people like halley. they just didnt, and now that the rules had been broken, she had no clue how to respond. once he had finished with confessing that he loved her, her throat went dry, and she had no clue how to respond.
she watched him for a few seconds, face hidden. she had no clue what she wanted to say first. she scooted forward, lifting his face to look at him. "chris. please...dont." she said, shaking her head. "Im just halley chris. the same old halley. god." she started, trying to figure out what to say next. "you have no clue how heartbroken i was when you didnt ask me out our freshmen year. i had..have..the biggest crush ever on you chris brody. your not just a geek. your my geek. nothing will ever change that." she said, smiling at him.
now. the i love you part. the more she thought about it, the more the truth was making itsself clear. she loved chris. but how could she say it? she had thought she loved brayden too. what if all of this turned out just like that? she swollowed hard, looking away for a second, then looking back. "i..i love you too." she said softly, trying to figure out of she had said it out loud, or if she was just thinking it. her hands were shaking and her stomach was tying itself in knots. god, she was a mess.

Yeah, she had nothing to say. He should've known he'd fucked up. He felt her hand on his face, and he lifted his head to look at her. There was moisture on his cheek; okay, so, he was a sensitive guy. And that smoke made his eyes water...
He stayed quiet while she talked, mostly in disbelief. She had really... Had she really? Great. He'd only wasted three years of his life thinking he'd never be good enough. This was all turning into a TV show or movie or something. He smiled. Her geek :]
"Thank you," he said, quietly, just before she spoke again. His eyes widened. She loved him? He hadn't even expected that. She loved Brayden. Not Chris. Not in that way. Hands trembling, he just stared at her pretty face. She had said it. She had to mean it.

she saw his eyes widen, and she breathed in sharply, looking away. he hadnt been expecting that, that was for sure. but then again, halley hadnt exactly been expecting to tell him either.
she let her breath out in a big whoosh, looking back at him. she had suprised herself by saying everything, but now that she had, she felt so much better, like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. she raised a hand to wipe her face, dried tears covered it, and she sighed. this day had been one of the most eventful days in a while, and that was saying a lot. now that she had said that, she didnt know what else to say.

He didn't say anything for a few minutes. He needed time to let things settle in. It certainly was a very eventful day... He hadn't planned on any of this happening. And now that it had, he felt amazing. She had a crush on him, too. And it hadn't changed... And she said she loved him.
His day couldn't really get any better. He was on the highest of highs. But what was there to do? Halley still had to work things out with Brayden. And she still might not want to BE with Chris.. He had never considered the possibility, but it was an exciting one. "Now what, sweetheart?" It was a dumb question. She knew nothing more than he did.. At this point the only thing that was clear to him was the fact that he would try to win her.

she shrugged. she didnt know what came next. this day had been both great and horrible, and she had no clue what all the was feeling at that exact moment. "wh...what am i supposed to say to brayden?" she asked, looking up from her hands to him. that was going to be the hardest part. despite everything, she couldnt just get over brayden like that. it was impossible.
she ran a hand through her hair, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. she knew that this would possibly be the end of brayden and chris' friendship. and hers and braydens. but she couldnt just break up with him for no reason. the fact that he was cheating on her still was unbelievable to her, and it still hadnt sank in.

He didn't intend on being friendly towards Brayden. At least not yet. He was, frankly, a bastard. And Halley didn't seem to understand that little fact. She would, sooner or later. For now it looked like things were going to stay the same. Only seeing her love someone else would be even harder now. It was strange how those kinds of things worked.
He sighed, a huge sigh, and sank back onto his elbows. He was reclined on the blanket, body stretched out full length. He didn't know what to do with himself. His mind was racing, and the only muscle in his body that was working seemed to be his heart. All ready he'd made a mess of the only thing he knew would stay constant in his life.

"chris...you have to understand. i cant just break up with him...its not that easy..." she said, shaking her head. despite all this, she DID love brayden still. and it was going to take a long time to get over him. she knew that chris wasn't going to like this, but she knew, that if he really loved her like he had said, he would give her time to straigten everything out.
chris was stressing out. as was halley, but she knew that chris had been keeping all this in, way too long. he had tore hisself up over this, all for her. she didnt know what to say. it was going to be a long night, thats all she knew.

"I know, Halley." he told her. It was the truth. He had known all along not to get his hopes up. Yet he jumped at the nearest thing and hung on for the ride. It was for the best, though, he knew. Only a matter of time before it all came out. Hopefully, now, things might start to shift in his favor. If not... Well, he was still content with being 'her geek'.
"Will you at least come lay with me for a bit?" he asked her, patting the spot beside him. He didn't really know what to expect. She knew he wouldn't make a move on her. Chris just needed the reassurance that everything was still the same, that it was going to be okay. Anything to hold on to.

she breathed a sigh of relief. at least he wasnt going to get upset, and demand that she break up with brayden at once. she didnt expect that from him though. chris wasnt that type of guy, and she knew that he would give her as much time as she needed.
she smiled, crawling towards him. she layed down on the blanket, her head on his chest. her eyes felt puffy and heavy from crying, and she didnt want the night to end. she knew that tomorrow, she would have to face brayden, and she didnt know how she was going to handle it. the one thing, or person, that she had always been able to run to, was chris, and that whole situation had changed. beckah's party was coming up soon, and it was going to be huge. anyone and everyone that was anybody was going to be there. she had been waiting weeks for this, months even, but right then, she wasnt so sure she wanted to go anymore.

It had been a long night. He felt the familiar flutter of butterflies in his stomach as she layed close to him, her head falling onto his chest. He put an arm around her, and his other hand found hers, his fingertips playing with hers. An old gesture, used to keep contact with her in some physical manner. Everything in her world had turned upside down, and he realised this better than anyone, because his had as well with his simple confession.
"Everything's going to be all right, Halley. I'll still be here," he whispered, his voice a soft breath directed at the top of her head. His fingers continued their game, eyes slowly closing. It was getting late... And they both had a lot on their minds. But Chris didn't want to leave her like this. In a way, he felt as is it were his fault. And he had a bad feeling she'd stay with Brayden. They'd been together for so long. Seemed like an eternity to Chris.

for a few moments, things were as close to back to normal as possible. her and chris had done this so many times before, nothing had changed except for the words that had been exchanged earlier. she allowed herself to relax, and watched her fingers with chris', sighing softly as she let her eyes shut.
she heard his words, but the seemed distant, and she realized how tired she was. her eyes fluttered open, and she turned her head to look up at him. "i know." she answered softly, nodding her head. this night seemed like it was going on forever, and that was a good thing. somehow, people always found out about things, no matter what. people would be bothering her about this forever, no matter what she did. she wasnt looking forward to it. at all.
