&& ITS ALWAYS BEEN YOU
halley had been lazy pretty much all day. she hadnt even bothered to clean her dorm up, like she usually did everyday. gretchen wasnt the cleanest of dormmates, so the cleaning part was left to halley. after watching countless reruns of The Hills, she had gotten a text from chris. having found a new form of entertainment, she had turned her television, and had been texting her best guy friend ever since. now, she had made plans to meet him at the lake. having not taken a shower, she had told him that she would be there in few seconds, but instead, it was turning into minutes. 20 to be exact. she had managed to take a shower, and find an outfit that looked decent, but not like she was trying too hard. she sighed, grabbing her keys and cell phone off of the table, before leaving her room. of course, she couldnt go anywhere without someone stopping her. just as she was leaving, rebeckah was coming in, wondering where she was going at this time. after she explained herself, she was allowed to leave, but after glancing at her phone, saw that she had wasted nearly 30 minutes since her least text. she walked to the lake. it wasnt that far from the dorms, and she needed the excercise. when she finally arrived, she spotted a fire and chris sitting on a blanket, looking bored. she instantly felt guilty, and walked towards him, sitting down beside him. "hey." she said, looking over at him and smiling. "Sorry it took so long." she added, not bothering to make up an excuse. she too looked towards the fire, setting her phone down beside her as she began to relax. she leaned back, kicking off her flip flops, setting them beside chris' in the sand.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

&& ITS ALWAYS BEEN YOU
she smiled at his greeting. he could always make her smile, not matter what. he was the type of guy that you could turn to when your best girl friend was being a bitch, or your boyfriend was being an ass, and he would be there with a shoulder to cry on. she was constantly told by her friends that she was the luckiest girl in the world. which she was. she had the greatest boyfriend ever, and the best guy friend any girl could ask for. she hugged him back, a smile playing on her lips. when they pulled away from eachother after a minute, she laughed at the look on his face. she matched it, giving him a puppy dog look. "I've missed mine too." she replied, nodding her head. "You know..the usual. cheerleading...parties...wondering why my best friend doesnt come and visit me anymore..." she said, intentionally adding in the last part, not to make him feel bad, just to mess around. she winked at him, her smile growing. "And how about you? mr brody has to have SOME sort of super important even happening, in order for him to go three days without seeing me." she said, laughing a little. OOC;; i know. wrong account. but im lazy, and didnt feel like switching. =P[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

even a heart transplant wouldn't show you how I feel would it baby?_______
His dark eyes stayed on her as she talked, winked, smiled. He played with the edge of the blanket before answering. "I haven't done anything important, Miss Mitchell. Unlike you, I don't have much of a social life," his lips curled into a small smile. He lifted a hand to ruffle his hair, a self concious habit.
"I'm glad you came out here," Chris told her as he lowered himself into a laying position. After shifting around a little, he'd arranged himself so he could see her face. He hated not being able to see someone's face as he talked to them. It took away some of the emotion of the words.
Tonight was just like any night. He'd spent many funfilled nights out here with Halley, and a random assortment of other people. Luckily he got her to himself tonight, even for a couple hours. He wouldn't be surprised if at least three other people didn't show up.

&& ITS ALWAYS BEEN YOU
she rolled her eyes. "your friends with me. of course you have a social life." she joked, smiling. out of all her friends, chris was probably the only one that she never got tired of being around. even brayden and beckah got obnoxious sometimes, to the point where she had to force them to leave, before she went crazy. "anything for my chris." she said, watching as he layed down on the blanket. she sighed, looking out at the water. just the other night, she had been out here with brayden. he had forced her to go into the water, even though she had practically begged him not to. she couldnt help but think, that if she was with chris instead of brayden, he wouldnt of made her do something like that. she shook the thoughts out of her head, looking back down at chris. it had been a while since she had spent some alone time with chris. she was always followed by one of her friends, or brayden was with them. it could get a bit awkward sometimes, but she always did her best to ignore it. amazingly, no one had shown up yet, so her and chris would be able to talk without getting interupted.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Her face changed with her thoughts. It was a subtle difference, but noticeable. At least to someone who had payed attention to those little details over the past three or four years. "What's on your mind, sweetheart?" he asked. She'd become 'sweetheart' the summer following their freshman year. That was way before he realised he didn't have a chance with this girl. A shame, really. He'd treat her better than anyone. He had the numerous scenarios laid out in his head.. Yeah, he'd be good.
She seemed a bit out of it. Maybe it was just the factor of being alone. It really had been quite too long, in his opinion. He had so many things to tell her.. so many things that would be left unsaid. His fingers crept across the soft, cool blanket, dancing over hers. A small smile curved his lips slightly, his eyes wandering back up to hers. "You know if there's anything wrong, you can tell Chris-topher."
He was itching to pull er down onto the blanket with him. He missed those nights she'd let him hold her. Back in winter, when it was cold and they had a very valid excuse. Since Brayden, she'd cut off most physical contact. Except for those hugs. Those were left untouched.

&& ITS ALWAYS BEEN YOU
her eyes moved quickly back to chris when he asked her what was wrong. she could never keep anything from him, which was both a good thing, and a bad thing, depending on what was wrong. right now, it wasnt a good thing, that was for sure. she shook her head, looking back out at the water. she was thinking again. everyone had been warning her about brayden. people were starting rumors that he was cheating, but to halley, thats exactly what they were. the one and only person that she would ever believe, was the one person that hadnt said anything to her about the whole thing. and that person was chris. she had avoided asking him, too scared to know what he would say. but waht about now? she had the perfect opportunity. she had to do it eventually, why not now? she heard him speak again, and nodded, smiling. "i know." she said, trying to think of how she was going to ask . she sighed, leaning back a little further. "chris...if you had a girlfriend, and she was cheating on you, you know id tell you, right?" she asked, looking over at him. if he didnt get what she was trying to say by that, then she didnt know what else to say. brayden and chris were good friends. that was obvious. she played with the edge of the blanket, anxiously awaiting his answer, yet dreading it at the same time.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Shit. Shitshitshitshit. He knew it was coming sooner or later. His fingers wrapped around her hand and squeezed. His eyes studied the water instead of the girl, and his brow wrinkled in thought. Yeah, he was almost one hundred percent positive Brayden was cheating on her. And he hadn't told her yet.. because he didn't want to see her hurt. It was a double-edged sword. Either way, she was going to get hurt eventually. And why not now?
She would either hate him for not telling her, or come to him for support. The latter was more common. So, he propped himself up on one elbow, and lifted his other hand to gently nudge her face so she'd look at him. "Yeah, I know you would," Any silly expression was gone. His face was serious, eyebrows raised slightly, mouth tilting down a bit at the corners.
"I'm sorry, Halley..." he didn't really want to say it. What if she didn't believe him? Accused him of being jealous, of just wanting to break them up. Which both were true, yet not his reason for telling her. Or not telling her. Sure, Bray was his friend, and normally friends don't snitch to the gee-eff. But Hal was so much more than just Brayden's girl.
"I'm sorry," he repeated. He really couldn't say it. If she asked him directly, he wouldn't lie. But he was ready to comfort her, to tell her it would be all right.

somehow, halley knew the moment chris squeezed her hand. all of a sudden her chest got tight, and she felt like the world was about to fall apart around her. she couldnt think of anything to say, so instead, she turned away from chris, trying her hardest to keep breathing. it only made it worse when he started to say he was sorry. she shook her head, still unable to talk. things like this didnt happen to halley. other girls, yes, but not her. she was halley mitchell. she had thought she had a boyfriend that she loved, that loved her back, but it turned out it was all a lie. every single second of it. her vision got blurry, and she could tell she was moments away from breaking down. she pulled away from chris, jumping to her feet and walking a ways away, sinking back to the ground next to a tree. she didnt want him to see her upset, yet she wanted him there to comfort her at the same time. the tears began to pour down her cheeks, and the more she thought about it, the more they came.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

"Cockass." yeah. He had an unusual way of arranging his inappropriate language. Chris really didn't know what to do. He knew she needed to figure it out.. Let it sink in. From her reaction, she wasn't in denial. Hopefully. If so, it'd be a bitter pill to swallow. He was only able to keep himself confined to the blanket for twenty seconds before following her. He'd seen her like this before. It wasn't any easier this time than the last.
"Sweetheart," his smooth voice was low, quiet. He sank to his knees beside her, his hand rubbing her back. He was seconds away from just pulling her to him, tight. What the hey? He attempted to wrap his arms around her, hoping she didn't pull away from him. Chris wanted to take her hurt away. And curbstomp Brayden's fake ass for making her hurt.
"I won't let you hurt," he told her, himself, softly. Yeah.. It hurt to see her like this. To know he couldn't do anything about it, because he'd never be what Brayden was. He couldn't live up to that. She was Halley Mitchell.

just as she'd guessed, it didnt take long for chris to come to comfort her. she felt his arms wrap around her, and at first she almost pulled away, but instead, found herself sinking into his embrace. she leaned her head against his chest, letting the tears fall as the reality of it sank in. "im so stupid." she said, shaking her head and attempting to wipe away some of her tears, just to have them replaced in a matter of seconds by a new batch. "i let myself fall for all of it. everyone kept telling me that he was cheating. but i wouldnt believe them. i thought he loved me." she said, sobbing even harder than ever. to know that chris was there for her, made her feel a bit better though. he had been there for her through every breakup she had, never asking questions or demanding anything, just being there. the one thing that had always bothered her though, was why did he never ask her out hisself? she had liked the guy since she met him in science their freshmen year, when they had been paired up for that project. he was the one person that was friends with her for reasons other than the fact that she was popular, or had money. he was sweet, kind, everything a girl could ask for, yet, she had never worked up the courage to tell him about it. obviously, if he had the same feelings, surely he would of told her by now wouldnt he of? "Halley. Are you fucking SERIOUS? You're not stupid. He's stupid. He fucked up what ANYONE else would die for. You're one in a million, sweetheart," he really was trying to keep his cursing to a minimum. "He can never find anyone else like you. You can find better than him any day," they were words spoken in truth. Normally, he let her cry on him, soothed her by rubbing her back and occasionally drying her face, and kept quiet. Else his feelings might pour out. He felt as if he could hold them back now.
Or not. He didn't know WHAT he was doing anymore. His lips pressed against the top of her head. "Halley.. Mmmpf," he didn't get past there without forcefully clamping his lips shut. He rubbed her arm, her skin smooth against his hand. "You know I love you, sweetheart." It was all he could say. She'd never know just how much he loved her.. Or that when he said that, he really meant that he was IN love with her. But if she knew, that might ruin the friendship.
And that, folks, would kill quicker than watching her with other guys.

&& ITS ALWAYS BEEN YOU
chris' reaction to her words suprised halley. she looked up at him, watching him as he spoke. he was madder than she had seen him in a really long time, and it scared her a bit. but what he said got to her a bit. "Fuck, chris. Im just a damn girl. theres a million other girls out there, just like me. i dont get what guys see in me all the time. I mean, i hate how guys are always doing anything and everything to get my attention. i just want a guy that loves me, for me. not anything else.'' she replied, shaking her head. she had never told anyone, including all her friends, how she felt about all the attention she got from guys. now that she had let it out, she felt better, but still, a bit uneasy judging by who she had told. she felt his lips on her head, and she sighed, trying to wipe away more tears. it seemed that they were starting to slow down a bit, but she knew that later, when she was alone in her dorm, they would come flooding back, worse than ever. she heard him say her name, then stop herself, and she looked up at him, a confused look on her face. then she heard him say he loved her, and she sighed. "thats not what you were going to say, is it chris?" she asked quitely, her eyes looking into his, trying to figure out what he was thinking. he was never an easy person to read, but usually, halley could figure him out. not this time though. she bit her lip, wanting to know what he was thinking, but dreading it, not wanting anymore bad news. even a heart transplant wouldn't show you how I feel would it baby?_______ He was mad. Quite mad. But that quickly simmered down to just irritation, bubbling below the surface. He knew she needed someone strong to support her right now. She needed some semblance of control. And here he was, letting his emotions get the most of him for the first time, at the most innappropriate time.
Chris' Mind: "Halley, LOOK HERE. Right here. Here I am. I'm that boy who loves you for you, not anything else. Yeah, I'm that boy that wants to give you the world. I'm righttt here."
Chris' Mouth: "Halley.. You'll find him. That boy is out there. He might even be right in front of you and you'd never know it," gah, talk about captain obvious. He shut up quick, hoping she wouldn't really catch on.. And hoping she would at the same time.
He wrinkled his nose at her question. No, the 'I love you' wasn't all he was going to say. "Now's not really the time for that talk, Halley-boo. I don't want to confuse you anymore," he tried. He knew she'd probably demand an explanation. He would have if someone had done that to him. But she had enough to deal with without trying to figure out what to do with the best friend who had fallen for her.
